Mukbang, originating from South Korea, is a type of video that features a person eating large quantities of food in front of the camera. While it is considered a therapeutic hobby for viewers, it can have deadly consequences on the content creators themselves.

Pan Xiaoting, a mukbang influencer based in China, is the latest victim of her own job.

On July 14, she passed away in front of horrified fans in the middle of a livestream. She had been eating up to 22lbs (10kg) of food as usual, with her normal livestreams lasting up to 10 hours.
