NCT Fans Debate If There’s “Discrimination” Over Which Members Get More Publicity
No matter how big or small a K-Pop group is, it’s pretty much unavoidable that one or a couple of members of the group will end up getting more promotions or non-group activities than others. This can be due to popularity, visuals, or their skills and personality being suited for non-idol work such as hosting radio shows or MCing, among other things.
When it comes to a very large group like NCT, though, the chances that only a few members will be better promoted than others in the group seems like it would be even more likely, and recently, fans have debated whether their management’s treatment towards the NCT members has been fair.
On an online forum post, some netizens have claimed that Taeyong is being pushed more on variety shows than other members. They used examples from the group’s Twitter that were recently posted, which shows that Taeyong was among a couple members that featured on two different variety shows that were aired closely together.
According to the author of and commenters on this post, they claim that this is a frequent trend with NCT, with Taeyong and maybe a few other members appearing more on variety shows than others. They’re accusing SM Entertainment of showing favoritism to these few members, though whether or not that’s true is up for debate.
There were plenty of comments on the post that agreed with the author, and Haechan was mentioned several times in terms of being perfectly suited for variety content but not getting to participate in it.
However, other commenters argued that there are reasons that some members are pushed more than others, such as some being better suited for certain content or their popularity being a good enough reason to get promoted more.
