While Single’s Inferno 4 was airing, some viewers became frustrated with the way the show was edited. The producers have been accused of purposing portraying some cast members in a better light than others, criticized for unbalanced screen time, and more.

According to Kim, the show is structured around the finale couples, and it’s up to the production team to build up to that reveal.

For us, the creators and crew, we know the final choices, and then we edit the whole thing. So we try to build up that suspense for the people watching.

Although the production team has a plan, there’s still room for flexibility. They knew, for instance, that the double date would happen, but the couples who would go on that date weren’t decided ahead of time. “The double date was planned,” Kim said, “but we didn’t know which two couples [would go] or when to send them to Paradise. So not everything is set in stone. We have the big overarching plan, but we can meddle with things in the middle.

However, the production team’s planning and “meddling” can have unforeseen consequences. Single’s Inferno 4, for instance, had fewer romances happening on the island, Inferno.

It wasn’t planned at all. It just happened. And I think it’s because we had the two game-changers, and we sent everyone to Paradise, and it was only the men who remained in the Inferno [with just Hae Lin].

I think they just had little physical time to be together and mingle on Inferno. So that is something that we actually very much regretted after filming everything.”
