Netizen Fiercely Divided Over (G)I-DLE Soyeon’s Eating Habits
(G)I-DLE‘s Soyeon is known to hate vegetables. Previously on I Live Alone, she showed viewers how she makes kimchi pancakes without the kimchi.
This time, she showed audiences how she makes kimchi fried rice without kimchi. Kimchi-based dishes are a staple in South Korea, such as kimchi fried rice, kimchi pancakes, kimchi stew, kimchi porridge, and more! Most of the time, kimchi is added as the main ingredient. In Soyeon’s version, she removes every single trace of vegetables.
First, she fries some spring onion stalks in oil to get some of the delicious flavor. Spring onion has its own oil that gives food a savory taste that Koreans love.
After letting it fry for awhile, she picks out the stalks again, keeping just the flavor. Adding in freshly-made white rice, she stir-fries them for awhile.
She adds in kimchi juice without the kimchi. This gives it some of the fermented flavor that kimchi is supposed to provide.
She adds in some gochujang for more kick.
Last but not least, add some oyster sauce…
… and top it off with sugar and your choice of protein. She went with pork belly here.
Her picky eating habits caused netizens to be fiercely divided. Some felt that it wasn’t in anyone’s place to criticize one’s eating habits.
- As long as she’s not eating with me, it’s fine. Who are you to care about other people’s lives?
- No, but why would kids copy her pickiness just because she’s an idol? Just leave her alone… What do you mean she’s bragging about it.
- It’s so funny how the director wanted to eat her fried rice with kimchi LOL.
- Wow, I didn’t know you could add oyster sauce to kimchi fried rice.
- It’s just a tasty fried rice instead LOL.
- If you’re not going to help with their puke, don’t say anything about someone else’s pickiness over food.
Others felt that she was acting up on television. Despite that, many defend her actions, calling out the netizens who criticize her.
- Her parents must be the ones who want to correct her pickiness the most and they probably tried. There’s no need for others to buzz about it. She knows that her pickiness is severe, and she’s finding ways to enjoy food deliciously, so let’s stop being nosy. Just laugh at a variety show for once.
- It must be a concept seeing how she’s like that over just one piece of kimchi.
- Oh… Honestly, if there’s someone like that around me…
- Then those who get mad at people who are just a little bit different from the mold should also live quietly and not make it obvious.
- You guys, don’t write comments… Stop displaying such annoying comments.
Although Soyeon doesn’t seem to enjoy vegetables much, she still tries to enjoy its flavors in her own way!
