Netizens Criticize “The Glory” For Its “Unnecessary” NSFW Scene As Past Interview With Actress Resurfaces
A past interview in which The Glory‘s Cha Joo Young revealed she refused a director’s request for her to wear a form-fitting outfit is going viral.
In the interview with Allure Korea, the actress revealed an anecdote involving the viral scene in which Cha Joo Young is wearing a white dress. According to the actress, she hadn’t planned on wearing that dress.
My stylists had prepared a different dress. It was a cute tweed outfit that was a bit shorter and less clingy to the body.
— Cha Joo Young
The actress stated that despite her preparing a different dress, the director had insisted that she wear the white dress.
The director wanted me to wear the white dress, but I refused. I thought it would look too ugly on screen. But I eventually wore the dress and filmed it, not knowing the scene would go viral.
— Cha Joo Young
The interview resurfaced amid Cha Joo Young’s NSFW scene in the second season of The Glory. Netizens were divided in their reactions towards the interview, with some netizens criticizing the director for not respecting the actress’s wishes while others defended the director, stating that the white dress was perfect for the scene.
- “I wish they would film uncomfortable scenes after explaining to the actors… It would be fine if the directors explained why a particular outfit or scene is necessary.”
- “In this scene, the outfit was a better choice than a cuter one.”
- “In the interview, she sighs while saying this. It’s understandable considering that the director suddenly forces her (to wear the outfit) against her wishes).”
- “Whether it’s necessary or not, I wish they would respect the actor’s opinions. I feel that that it is only right.”
- “The dress was fine, but I was kind of taken aback by the scene in which she takes off her shirt.”
Many netizens, however, criticized the drama’s nude scene featuring Cha Yoo Jung. Many netizens stated that the scene was unnecessary and expressed their discomfort.
- “I am sure the script called for the shirt to be taken off and thrown… It would have been fine if they had shown a silhouette. I hate the fact they showed the explicit scene.”
- “The nude scene in season 2 was unnecessary.”
- “That scene was unnecesarry.”
- “They could have shown the back of the actress taking off her clothes, but I don’t like the fact that they unnecessarily showed (the nude scene).”
- “The fact that they unnecessarily asked for nudity…”
- “To be honest, the nude scene in season 2 was really unnecessary. I was so surprised. Do directors need women’s bodies to perform art?”
