Korean Netizens Are Seeing A K-Pop Fandom Shift From Group to Multi Stans
In the world of K-pop, the culture and trends are ever-changing.
Now, with fifth-generation of idols, many have started to see the differences between current and past idol fandom culture.
Recently, an online community post garnered attention regarding the differences in idol group fandoms today.
“Title: During EXO, INFINITE, WINNER, and iKON, people would be shocked if we even looked at other idols…but now….
…it’s the era of ZEROBASEONE, BOYNEXTDOOR, RIIZE, &TEAM, TWS, and NCT WISH, and there are many fans that stan these groups that also watch other idol videos too.
I also stan one of the groups mentioned above and I listen to other idol songs and watch stage performance videos sometimes. Currently, I’m into BOYNEXTDOOR and NCT WISH’s songs.”
Korean netizens agreed that times have changed and the K-Pop fandom culture has become more flexible.
- “These days fans stand a member from one group and another member from another group…there’s a lot of solo stans too which is nice.”
- “Back in the day fans really hated solo stans.”
- “Yea a lot of flexibility these days.”
- “I agree there’s a lot of solo stans within groups now.”
- A lot of people just listen to all songs and enjoy all of it.”
- “The multi-stan era is so nice.”
- “Agreed. Back in the day, you would be criticized for even batting an eye towards another group.”
- “Back in my day, people would unfollow you if you liked another idol outside of your fandom.”
- “This is natural since there are a lot fewer K-pop fans than before.”
- “Broadcast talk about this too so it’s become much more easy to do so.”
- “The multi-stan era.”
- “I can also see that there has been an increase in multi-stans.”
- “Yeah, there are a lot of multi-stans these days. There are a lot of people that stan who’s hot right now, and it changes all the time.”
- “During second and third-gen, people kept quiet when they liked other groups, but now everyone does it freely.”
Do you agree with this? Are you a multi-stan?
