Netizens Heavily Oppose Son Ye Jin’s Potential Casting In Explicit Drama
According to reports on October 24, KST, Korean entertainment powerhouses Son Ye Jin and Ji Chang Wook are in talks to star in a Netflix project called Untold Scandal.
The drama is an adaptation of a famous 2003 film by the same name. Originally based on the French novel Dangerous Liaisons by Pierre Choderlos, it will reimagine the story in the backdrop of the Joseon Dynasty. In 2003, the movie Untold Scandal recorded over 3 million footfall in South Korea despite being unrated for its explicit scenes.
Son Ye Jin is being considered for the role of Lady Jo, the central female character of the Netflix remake. Ji Chang Wook, on the other hand, is in the talks for playing Jo Won, the male protagonist. In the story, the two characters team up to corrupt the virtuous maiden, Lady Suk.
Despite the success of the 2003 movie, not everyone seems to be on board with the idea of Son Ye Jin taking up the Netflix remake, given the highly sexual content. Notably, the drama will be directed by Jung Ji Woo, who is known for his other mature movies, like Eungyo and Somebody.
Here’s what some netizens have expressed about the potential casting of Son in the drama:
- “But why?”
- “Again?!”
- “This would be fun.”
- “It’s not like this is a masterpiece. So why?”
- “But why? It’s a waste of the actors’ talents. They would find so many new stories if they would just search through webtoons and web novels. Can’t they just make something new with those?”
- “Why is Son Ye Jin doing this?”
Meanwhile, the show’s filming is reportedly scheduled to commence next March.
