Netizens Believe Jung Hae In Is Ruining His Acting Career With His Recent Production Choices
Jung Hae In has gone on to become one of South Korea’s highly coveted actors following his appearance in While You Were Sleeping back in 2017. Ever since, he has become a household name in the nation, marking his territory in the acting industry with hit after hit, such as Something in the Rain, One Spring Night, Tune in for Love, D.P., and more.
According to Korean netizens, however, Jung Hae In has been making mistakes with his most recent production choices—which they believe are ruining his career.
The first series that was highlighted by netizens was his 2020 tvN K-Drama, A Piece of Your Mind. The melodrama followed the story of Moon Ha Won (played by Jung Hae In) who is an AI programmer, and Han Seo Woo (played by actress Chae Soo Bin) who is a music recording engineer. The lighthearted plot and the stellar cast originally garnered hot attention prior to its premiere, as netizens anticipated another home run for Jung Hae In.
It didn’t take long to see, however, that Jung Hae In’s star power alone was not enough to revive the disappointing production. The tvN series struggled with its viewership ratings, as the highest rating for A Piece of Your Mind was recorded at 2.4% for its first episode. As the series continued to dip into the 1% ratings throughout its broadcast, tvN made the decision to cut the K-Drama short, from its original 16 episodes to 12 episodes.
After overcoming the pain of the series’ early conclusion, Jung Hae In was able to regain his popularity and status with the success of the military Netflix production, D.P. The unique storyline, the amazing cast, and the gritty realities of the Korean military service proved to be exactly what the actor needed.
However, the D.P. success was short lived as well, as the actor would come to face possibly the biggest crisis he’s ever encountered in his acting career thus far.
JTBC‘s highly anticipated series Snowdrop recently aired on December 18 on Disney+, as fans tuned in to see the chemistry between the actor and BLACKPINK‘s Jisoo. While the visual chemistry between the two main leads became the talk of the town, it couldn’t beat the headlines of the ongoing controversy.
Snowdrop has been faced with an alleged history distortion controversy ever since the news of the series began to take over nation. The series follows the story of the 1987 Democracy Movement in South Korea, but that’s not the reason why the public had an issue with the K-Drama. According to netizens, it was the beautification of the National Security Agency and the distortion of the movement that became problematic.
The backlash that followed has only grown, as the controversy continues to gain momentum throughout the nation. Currently, more than 280,000 people have petitioned for the cancellation of Snowdrop, while dozens of sponsorships continue to pull out from the production.
As the backlash remains at an all-time high, netizens began to wonder if Jung Hae In will face, yet another unfortunate premature ending of one of his productions.
Due to his prior positive image and popularity, netizens couldn’t help but express their disappointment in Jung Hae In and his decision to voluntarily join the JTBC production. Along with his prior appearance in A Piece of Your Mind and his current controversial appearance in Snowdrop, netizens believed that the actor was “ruining his own career.”
- “He really is ruining his own career ㅋㅋㅋ”
- “I mean even in ‘D.P.’…I only remember Koo Gyo Hwan and Jo Hyun Chul anyways.”
- “Even before his casting, people made a big deal and told him not to do it so ㅋㅋㅋ he ruined his own career.”
- “He’s ruining his own career ㅋㅋ”
- “There’s an influx of 20 something male actors and it’s a saturated market. It seems like Jung Hae In’s brand value is lowering…”
As the Snowdrop controversy continues to get heightened, Jung Hae In’s agency FNC Entertainment has not yet addressed the situation.
