K-Netizens Question SEVENTEEN’s Historic Double Daesang Wins At “2024 MAMA Awards”
The MAMA Awards is one of Korea’s biggest music awards shows of the year. Since 1999, idols have graced the stage to accept awards for their achievements.
This year was no different, especially for SEVENTEEN, who won five awards.
Two of these awards were daesangs, or grand prizes, awarded to the top group in that category. Fans did not vote on these categories; instead, they included a mixture of judges’ evaluations and chart performance, both digital and physical, for some categories.
SEVENTEEN won “Artist Of The Year” and “Album Of The Year” and left their fans emotional over their history-making wins. SEVENTEEN are now tied for second with TWICE for the most wins in MAMA history.
However, one of SEVENTEEN’s wins has sparked some debate amongst netizens.
In a forum post, netizens discussed their win for “Artist Of The Year ” and compared their releases this year to those of another nominee, aespa.
