Korean Netizens Further Question BTS Suga’s Initial Apology After Release Of New CCTV Footage

On the night of August 6, BTS‘s Suga was involved in a drunk driving incident. Reports from various Korean news sources indicated that he had fallen off an electric scooter while in Hannam-dong. A patrolling police officer, noticing a scent of alcohol, came to his aid and took him to the nearest station for testing.
According to an exclusive report from Donga Ilbo, the results revealed a blood alcohol content of 0.227%, which is the highest recorded for a celebrity in such cases. Additionally, the electric scooter Suga was riding did not meet the criteria for an electric kickboard; it is subject to the same traffic laws as cars.
On August 13, 2024, Yonhap News released new CCTV footage of the incident. Here Suga can be seen driving unsteadily on a pedestrian path along the main road before his fall.
The police on patrol discovered him, promptly calling for backup.
A police car arrived to help Suga to the police station for investigation.
Following the new footage by Yonhap News, many netizens brought up the discrepancies in Suga’s his initial statement. In the statement, Suga claimed that he had parked in front of his house, and had fallen over while trying to park.
As such, I violated traffic rules. I parked in front of the main gates to my home, and in that process, I fell over by myself. Police was nearby, and through the results of a breathalyzer test, my license was revoked and I paid a fine.

Suga has since released a new statement.
Netizens realized from the CCTV footage that he had fallen down along the main road, rather than in front of his house.
- “How can he drink then drive a scooter on the sidewalk? What if he hit someone? And just how come nothing in his apology statement is correct? It’s not in front of his house, neither was it while he was parking.”
- “Is he crazy? What if he hit someone?”
- “So it was all lies that he fell while trying to park in front of his house.”
- “A terror the more and more you dig.”
- “On the sidewalk? I really can’t shield him any longer. Please get out.”
- “At this rate, did he write the apology while drinking? You said you fell while were parking!”
- “It wasn’t in front of his house, but on the sidewalk… No wonder. I found it weird how there would be police right in front of his house.”
Previously, Suga’s statement claimed that he had been parking his vehicle in front of his house when he fell. The public already questioned his location once, as the police stated that he was found near Nine One Hannam.
