ZEROBASEONE’s Kim Jiwoong was recently involved in controversy. A fan had accused him of cursing in Korean as soon as a videocall fan sign had ended. In a recent report by Dispatch, it was concluded by a voice analyst that it was not verifiable that the person who cursed was Kim Jiwoong. They determined that although no edits were made to the video and that there was indeed a curse in the video, it was not verifiable that it came from Kim Jiwoong himself. A staff on hand also testified that Kim Jiwoong did not curse.

As per the results of analyzing the special traits of the voices in the video, the voices of the people who said “thank you” and the person who cursed have different pitches and heights in terms of their voice waves, and it was determined that they came from different people.

Despite that, many netizens are disbelieving of the statement. They criticize the statement for being unclear and misleading. While the original case analysis stated that “it was unverifiable if the voices were from the same person,” WAKEONE’s statement implied that it simply meant that they were two different people. Similarly, they claimed that since the video was recorded by a third device, as many fans do with video call fansigns, it could be used to assume that the curse was from an external source.
