Netizens scoffed at allegations that NewJeans had plagiarized 90s Mexican group Jeans.
Previously, a post claiming that NewJeans had copied a Mexican girl group went viral.
In the post, a netizen claimed that NewJeans had plagiarized Jeans, a Mexican girl group from the 90s. The post included carefully selected scenes that seemingly depict the groups having similar choreo and music videos.
Despite netizen’s intentions, the post has sparked backlash targeting HYBE. Many felt that that the edits were contrived by HYBE themselves and weren’t very convincing, especially as NewJeans is a group that uses retro aesthetics, therefore, similarities to 90s groups were inevitable.
Others went as far as claiming Infinite Challenge aesthetics were even more similar.
Netizens shared that the Infinite Challenge comparison shows just how baseless the claims were.
Netizens blasted HYBE for allegedly trying to maliciously bring hate to NewJeans. This isn’t the first time HYBE was alleged to have sabotaged ADOR’s group.
- “Just because (HYBE) claims NewJeans plagiarized a group from 30 years ago doesn’t make it so, lol. People have eyes. Infinite Challenge is way more similar, lol. This is f*cking comedy.”
- “Saying NewJeans copied Infinite Challenge is more convincing.”
- “Then you should say ILLIT, who copied NewJeans, also copied Jeans. And LE SSERAFIM’s plagiarism is on a whole different level, let’s bring that back up.”
- “I heard that HYBE is deleting these posts after they got caught posting them.”
- “You’re forcing it with the gifs, lol. If you watch the actual video, the allegations will make you laugh. Still, it’s funny to see some people are still arguing.”
- “I mean, they are trying to bring back Y2K aesthetics, so it is inevitable that they are similar to groups from back then… Did you guys say Samsung plagiarized when they brought flip phones back?”
- “Seriously, you guys are so stupid.”
- “Lol, this is a reach.”
- “Who’d write an article about this? That journalist needs to do better, lol.”
- ” Seriously, stop being insane, lol. How little do you think of the public? They are seriously putting work in that article, lol. I’m here just to kick it after reading the comments.”
Meanwhile, this isn’t the first time HYBE has been alleged to have tried to sabotage NewJeans, despite claiming in court that they have the group’s best interest in mind. You can read more in the link below.
