ILLIT Allegedly Takes Shot At NewJeans’ Minji

In an email, the parents of the K-Pop stars criticized HYBE for mistreating and plagiarizing NewJeans.

Also, the parents expressed concern over ILLIT’s self-produced content. According to the parents, ILLIT’s self-produced content seemed to welcome gossip and controversy.
But ILLIT’s self-produced content had scenes that could be used for gossip. I felt it was inappropriate that ILLIT’s content produced by BELIFT brought this incident up. As I feared, I saw that the scenes were used in online posts mocking NewJeans. All of this was planned and produced by HYBE’s internal production team and was not filtered or edited, which is disappointing.

As the email went viral, one netizen uploaded a post in which they claimed they had found the problematic scene. In the scene, ILLIT members could be seen choosing between Kalguksoo and Galbi Jjim. The members then unilaterally chose Kalguksoo.
The scene harkens back to Minji’s controversy over Kalguksoo. Previously, the NewJeans member faced criticism when she stated that she had never tried Kalguksoo.

Netizens reacted to the scene and editing, with many stating that, although the allegations seem ridiculous, HYBE’s track record of media play makes it hard to dismiss. Also, many felt that the editing in which BELIFT LAB wrote “Kalguksoo Is What’s Trending Now” was out of place and seemed contrived to push a narrative. Still, there were some who felt the allegations were too much of a reach.
