NewJeans Is The Only K-Pop Artist To Make It In Pitchfork’s “100 Best Songs Of 2023”
In the little over a year since NewJeans first debuted back in August 2022, the rookie girl group has taken the K-Pop world by storm in numerous ways. Their songs have performed incredibly well both in Korea and internationally, and they’ve broken records on music charts and in other places in shockingly short periods of time.
And now, though they’re still technically rookies, they’ve achieved yet another accomplishment that hasn’t been made by any other K-Pop artist to date.
Music platform Pitchfork recently released their list of “The 100 Best Songs of 2023”, which includes a wide variety of music genres that, up until this year, excluded the K-Pop genre. The list this year includes artists such as Olivia Rodrigo, Lana Del Rey, Troye Sivan, and a host of other well-known and lesser-known musical artists. And included on that list is none other than NewJeans themselves!
Not only did they make it onto this list, but they even made it into the top 10, with their song “Super Shy” ranking at #7. Here’s what Pitchfork had to say about it.
Fans are understandably ecstatic that NewJeans has succeeded in making it onto this highly coveted list, and the comments section on a Reddit post about it shows their enthusiasm.
Congratulations to NewJeans on this impressive achievement!
