NewJeans’ “OMG” Is Now In The Top 5 Most-Streamed First-Week K-Pop Girl Group Albums On Spotify… With Just Two Songs
On January 2, monster rookie girl group NewJeans released their highly anticipated single album, OMG, featuring two songs: “Ditto” and “OMG”.
Being their first comeback after their unexpected but enormously successful debut, there was a lot of excitement for new music from NewJeans, and already they’re breaking records for themselves by a large margin!
The album sold nearly twice as many copies in the first day as their first album, New Jeans, did — 481.4k copies compared to 262.8k — and their first-week sales data that was recently released shows the same kind of skyrocketing success.
In fact, OMG‘s first-day sales surpassed the first-week sales of New Jeans, which sold around 311k copies in its first seven days. In its first week, their latest album has now made around 701k sales!
But their sales numbers aren’t the only measure of data for the NewJeans members to be proud of. OMG is breaking records when it comes to streaming numbers too.
Despite the album only having two songs, OMG accumulated around 40.3 million streams in its first week. This doesn’t include the streams that pre-release single “Ditto” made prior to the album’s debut.
This makes the album the fourth most-streamed album by a K-Pop girl group in its first week on Spotify, surpassed only by three BLACKPINK albums: Kill This Love (43.0 million streams), The Album (148.5 million), and BORN PINK (170.8 million).
OMG is also the most-streamed fourth generation K-Pop album in its first week, surpassing Stray Kids albums NOEASY (40.2 million streams) and ODDINARY (37.1 million), which held the previous records.
Congratulations to NewJeans on all that they’ve already accomplished in their short career so far!
