Videos From NewJeans’ Recent Fansign Go Viral — Sparking A Debate About Underage Idols
Some footage from a NewJeans’ fan sign event has gone viral, raising concerns for the safety of idols that are minors.
Since debuting, their catchy music and style have gained fans from across the globe and from different walks of life.
Throughout the years, it hasn’t been unheard of for female girl groups to have a lot of male fans, and they are heard during performances. Recently, a clip has gone viral showing a NewJeans fansign event showing what seemed like a whole venue of male fans, many of whom seem older than the NewJeans members.
One video particularly shocked fans and raised even more concerns for the safety of idols. While it isn’t uncommon for idols to show “skinship” during events like this, one video seemingly portrayed a male fan at the event opening his hands near the members before being pushed away from the staff members.
When the video was posted, netizens shared their anger at the lack of boundaries between the young idols and someone who seemed much older. They thought the male fan expected to hold the members’ hands.
Yet, the video also raised issues on the topic of the general safety of idols, rather than focusing on male fans with young female idols.
In particular, when the second video was posted, many netizens agreed that it wasn’t fair to judge someone’s actions or make assumptions about what they look like. Yet, it raised concerns about young idols’ safety at these events, including that minors should always have someone with them during fan sign events.
While many of the videos on this issue seem to concern young female idols and older male fans, the topic should be more focused on the wider issue of young idols interacting with fans.
