On December 30, KST, the respective labels of the groups posted condolence messages on social media while also informing fans that they would be proceeding with their overseas schedules “with a heavy heart.” One common schedule between the two groups was the 66th Shining! Japan Record Awards.

On December 30, both groups appeared at the award show to perform their latest hits but ensured that the tragic event was not glossed over. All the members of TXT and NewJeans appeared on the live broadcast wearing black ribbons on their outfits as a symbol of remembrance and mourning.

NewJeans also posted a condolence message on their social media platform, including their black ribbons in the post.

Notably, apart from NewJeans, other HYBE girl groups like LE SSERAFIM and ILLIT are also carrying out their overseas schedules, whereas the majority of the South Korean entertainment industry is halting multiple events to join the nation in mourning.

While some fans defended these HYBE labels by pointing out that canceling overseas schedules can get much more complicated, many were still disappointed in the companies’ decision to proceed with their plans.
