JYP Entertainment’s Response To NMIXX Controversy Sparks Further Backlash

“They shouldn’t have released this statement…”

Fans reacted to JYP Entertainment‘s response to allegations that they had faked NMIXX’s performance.

On May 30, JYP Entertainment’s SQU4D released a statement addressing allegations accusing NMIXX members of faking a performance during which their song’s background track seemingly cut off. The performance had gone viral due to the members continuing to sing, showing off their live vocal skills.

Hello, this is SQU4D.

In order to heat up the atmosphere of the show, we agreed with the university to stage a malfunction with the backtrack as an event.

However, in order to create a natural setting, we did not let the NMIXX members know about this beforehand.

We apologize for the discomfort guests and fans felt through this performance and will work hard so that this will not happen again in the future. Thank you to everyone who supported the group at the festival and we apologize once again. Thank you.

The response, in which the label division claimed that NMIXX members had no prior knowledge of the stunt, has sparked criticism as many fans claimed that the statement didn’t make sense. Still, some fans felt the backlash was a little much, considering the circumstances.

  • “I’m not sure if this large of a backlash is warranted.”
  • “Of course, the reaction is bad. They lied, and Koreans hate that.”
  • “It pisses me off more because I know what the director’s intentions were behind the stunt. If they wanted to show off their vocals, they could’ve just added an acapella part to the song. The stunt was very lazy.”
  • “It doesn’t matter if their skills are real; they lied. Of course, there will be backlash.”
  • “What are they doing? I really like NMIXX. This pisses me off.”
  • “Did you think a faked performance stunt would go over well?”
  • “Ah, this is so cringe. Why did they do something like this?”
  • “They shouldn’t have released this statement… Was there enough backlash to even warrant one?”

What are your thoughts?
