NMIXX’s Viral University Performance Turns Out To Be Staged, SQU4D Responds
Recently, NMIXX attended the Shinhan University Festival and showcased their impressive live vocals. Even after the backtrack stopped unexpectedly, the members looked shocked for a few seconds before continuing like a pro.

Fans praised the members for their professionalism and talent, agreeing they don’t need a backtrack for their performances.
However, the university council later posted a bit of TMI regarding the festival and revealed that the backtrack cutting off on NMIXX was staged and agreed upon before the show.
The backtrack malfunction for NMIXX on day one was a staged performance that we received notice about prior to the show. (When the backtrack turned off, people in the synergy zone all looked over and I almost thought it was a mistake for a second).
Netizens felt that this staged performance was unnecessary as the group’s live talents were already known.
- “It did look staged though.”
- “I did wonder for a second why a malfunction like this would happen to NMIXX, who is good at live vocals. But it really was staged.”
- “Did they really have to? The reaction from the audience was good even before the backtrack cut off.”
- “Wow…this was actually staged.”
- “Did they really have to do this though?”
- “We all know they are good at live without doing something like this.”
- “A lot of people were criticizing the school about this..they are too much.”
- “What kind of marketing is this…I don’t think I’ll listen to their songs now..this is imprinted in my head.”
However, member Bae posted on Bubble that they were surprised as the backtrack cutting off, implying that they did not know about it being “staged.”
The music turned off suddenly so I was totally shocked lolol. I was so shocked I couldn’t keep a straight face, but my body just kept moving so I just naturally continued to sing.

Netizens were divided on the situation, with some not believing that the members didn’t know about this prior to the performance.
- “They are trying to make it go viral using the backtrack accident to prove their live vocals. I really wonder, did they really not tell the members about this beforehand.”
- “If she knew, she wouldn’t have posted that on Bubble. Trolls, stop being suspicious about it, she didn’t know.”
- “It was agreed on before the show, how could the members not know? How does that make sense.”
- “She said she doesn’t know, and yet these trolls…This could have been agreed on by the agency and not passed on to the singers. How can you confirm that the members knew about it? Are you some mind reader that can tell someone is lying?”
- “Those that believe they didn’t know just show how low your intelligence level is. Singers are the center of the performance, so why would the company take a risk and lie to the singers? Of course, they knew about it.”
Most recently, SQU4D (a division established by JYP Entertainment exclusively for the girl group NMIXX) responded through an official statement online.
“Hello, this is SQU4D.
In order to heat up the atmosphere of the show, we agreed with the university to stage a malfunction with the backtrack as an event.
However, in order to create a natural setting, we did not let the NMIXX members know about this beforehand.
We apologize for the discomfort guests and fans felt through this performance and will work hard so that this will not happen again in the future. Thank you to everyone who supported the group at the festival and we apologize once again. Thank you.”
