North Korea Sends “Poop Balloons” To South Korea
According to reports on May 28, KST, North Korea sent tens of balloons across its border with South Korea, carrying rather unpleasant goodies.
According to Seoul’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, North Korea sent around 90-150 balloons to the South, suspected to be carrying feces and propaganda leaflets. Reports said around 10 balloons were found floating in parts of Gyeonggi and Gangwon Provinces near the border on Tuesday. Some of the balloons are still airborne at the time of writing. Local authorities sent warnings to residents through emergency mobile messages at the request of the military.
The JCS found that some of the fallen balloons carried what is suspected to be animal excrement and leaflets. They have advised people to steer clear of unknown objects and to report any suspicious sightings to nearby military bases or to the police.
This “attack” is being assumed as a retaliation against anti-North Korean leaflets sent from South Korea by North Korean human rights organizations. The North warned of a “tit-for-tat action” recently, adding that they would scatter “mounds of wastepaper and filth” on South Korea.
This wouldn’t be the first time for North Korea to pull this stunt. In 2016, they sent balloons packed with cigarette butts and used toilet paper to the South, creating a similar incident.
