Popular Idol’s Surprise Enlistment Notice Exposes Company’s Long-Term Mistreatment
Normally, when male idols prepare for their mandatory military enlistment, special care is taken to give them a proper send-off. For example, in the case of the recently sent-off NCT‘s Taeyong, the idol was able to release an album before beginning his service.
Recently, the surprise announcement of a popular third-generation idol’s enlistment exposed the alleged mistreatment he’s faced at the hands of his agency.
In 2012, the boy group NU’EST debuted under Pledis Entertainment, remaining active until their disbandment in 2022.
At that time, the members went their separate ways, including Ren, who signed with BPM Entertainment. The same year, he made his solo debut with Ren’dezvous, sporting a new look.
On September 2, it was announced that he would begin his mandatory service as a social worker on the 26th. And while this was not entirely unexpected due to his age, the announcement came after several months of inactivity on his official pages.
In response, one fan detailed other instances of alleged mistreatment at the hands of BPM, including the inactivity.

In addition to Ren’dezvous being his only release in his two years under the agency, BPM has allegedly neglected to maintain his online presence. Specficially, Ren’s Spotify account seems to have been taken over by another singer, who has altered his official profile and music.
Ren also issued an apology related to the sudden enlistment notice, saying he also wanted a chance to greet fans before it happened.
I wanted to say goodbye in person, too… But the situation turned out this way. I’m so sorry. I promise to come back even cooler.

Fans have shared their irritation with the company for their treatment of Ren.
We have been waiting for his 2nd solo album for 1 year and 3 months and what did bpm do as a company? They didn't give us fans any content about Ren for 1 year and 3 months. And yesterday they announced Ren's military service news. FCK YOU!!! @bpmentofficial https://t.co/L7soIppVvL pic.twitter.com/ujPcTGkDvP
