Popularity Vs. Artistry — Here’s What OH MY GIRL’s YooA Values Most
Some singers dream of drawing in huge crowds of fans, racking up followers and fame at a rapid rate. Others, however, are more interested in artistic value, prioritizing creativity and the music itself. In a new interview with THE STAR, OH MY GIRL‘s YooA revealed which is most important to her.
Luckily for YooA, the OH MY GIRL star has a great mix of popularity and artistry in her career so far. On the popularity side, she has 850,000 Instagram followers and counting, frequently ranking highly on brand reputation rankings.
On the artistry side, YooA released her solo debut almost a year ago, showcasing unique themes and musical choices throughout Bon Voyage.
But when it comes down to it, which does she value more? YooA revealed to THE STAR that it depends on which side of herself she’s referring to. As YooA, the singer, she says, “I’ll choose popularity.”
However, as Yoo Si Ah—the real-life girl behind the idol persona—YooA prioritizes the opposite. “As Yoo Si Ah, I want to get artistic value,” she stated.
Elaborating on her stance, YooA went on to explain that as an idol, she wants to sing songs with a popular appeal—songs that many people can love and enjoy listening to. But, on the flip side, she explained that the songs she likes personally aren’t typically popular, instead reflecting her own artistic preferences.
Of course, the OH MY GIRL star is doing a great job at balancing the two, drawing in listeners with her novel and interesting music.
