Olympic Athlete’s Fiancé Was Exposed As A Fraud — It Turns Out His Father Is A Scammer, Too
Former South Korean Olympic fencer Nam Hyun Hee and her now-former fiancé, Jeon Chung Jo, are making headlines due to his lies about his identity and allegations of fraud.
On October 27, it was reported that there were fraud allegations against Jeon Chung Jo’s father, Jeon Chang Soo. Through the JTBC program Crime Chief, it has been revealed that the father is wanted on charges of fraud, contradicting Jeon Chung Jo’s claim to be the third generation of a conglomerate.
According to the report, an informant referred to as A, who operated a large restaurant alone, claimed to have dated Jeon Chang Soo in 2015. According to A, Jeon Chang Soo promised a future to A at that time, saying, “Let’s buy a house and live together” and “Let’s get married.” They were in a relationship for about two years.
I had a big restaurant at the time, and [Jeon Chang Soo] was so kind. He wore clothes and pants that were ₩3.00 million KRW (about $2,220 USD) to ₩4.00 million KRW (about $2,960 USD) and carried expensive bags. And on top of that, he made it seem like he was a highly successfuly person—just like Jeon Chung Jo. He was so good to me that I prayed every day to give thanks.

Later, Jeon Chang Soo demanded A to set up an office for him because he wanted to start a business. Because A believed the two of them would get married, she provided business funds to him. However, in 2018, he suddenly disappeared.
Informant A claimed that they not only looked alike physically but that they were equally terrible people for their romance scams.
[Jeon Chung Jo] is equally a bad person. And his dad is so good at speaking… He’s the same as when Jeon Chung Jo was little.

A claimed that there were about 60 victims of fraud by Jeon Chang Soo, with the largest amount being ₩1.60 billion KRW (about $1.18 million USD). A personally suffered damages of ₩300 million KRW (about $222,000 USD).
A also stated that “the mother and daughter’s methods of fraud are the same,” signifying that the whole family scammed people. She also said that out of the total damages, ₩500 million KRW (about $370,000 USD) would have likely been delivered to Jeon Chung Jo.
Currently, the police have issued a wanted notice for Jeon Chang Soo on fraud charges. Special police units have been deployed to arrest him, but he has not been apprehended yet.
