Actor Park Sung Hoon has officially exited the highly anticipated tvN K-Drama The Tyrant’s Chef set to air later this year. He was going to star next to Girls’ Generation‘s Yoona (also known as Lim Yoona).

According to OSEN, the actor’s departure was finalized after a mutual decision between the production team and his agency, following extensive discussions.

The Tyrant’s Chef tells the story of a French chef who travels back in time to the past, where he crosses paths with a tyrannical king who also happens to be a passionate foodie. Together, they embark on a journey that spans centuries, weaving a narrative of love and personal transformation. The casting of Girls’ Generation’s Yoona and Park Sung Hoon had heightened expectations among fans.

Park’s withdrawal comes in the wake of a controversy surrounding his personal social media. The actor “mistakenly” shared an explicit parody of Squid Game that was linked to adult content. The shocking incident occurred during a period of national mourning, which also led to the cancellation of the drama’s initial script reading. However, the production team clarified that the reading was canceled as a mark of respect for the victims of the Jeju Air tragedy and not due to the controversy surrounding Park.

Park Sung Hoon addressed the social media controversy with an apology on January 8 during an interview for Squid Game 2.
