Popular Actress Admits To Relying On Sleeping Pills After Husband’s Infidelity

Actress Hwang Jung Eum recently opened up about her psychological struggles following her turbulent divorce.

On December 17, KST, Hwang appeared on the popular variety show Because I’m Solo and visited a psychological counseling center to treat her insomnia. She told the doctor that off late, she had been having trouble getting a good sleep, affecting her lifestyle.

I used to be a very good sleeper. These days, I go to sleep alright but I keep waking up in the middle of the night. This keeps happening and it’s very hard and painful. Even when I wake up after sleeping, I don’t feel refreshed, and I have trouble concentrating. I feel like I’m always in a daze.

Hwang implied that these symptoms started appearing after she got divorced.

The actress had a very public fallout with her pro-golfer husband, Lee Young Don, this year. Their seven-year marriage fell apart as the actress exposed Lee’s infidelity in a series of controversial social media posts. She also accused an unrelate non-celebrity woman of being the mistress, leading to defamation charges and legal disputes.

It turns out the circumstances have taken such a toll on Hwang that she had to seek the help of sleeping pills for the first time in her 20-year career around November 2023, the same time when she was going through her troubled divorce.

Around November 2023, my sleep quality deteriorated a bit. Suddenly, I couldn’t sleep well, so I was going crazy. I took sleeping pills for the first time in my 20-year career in the entertainment industry.

Fortunately, the medication helped her a bit during that difficult period. But Hwang shared that she had gotten much better over time and that nowadays, she can fall asleep very easily and get a good night’s rest.
