Popular TV Personalities Expose The “Power Trip” Of Senior Actors
Popular TV personalities Kim Sae Rom, Park Seul Gi, and Ha Ji Young recently exposed, based on their first-hand experiences, how celebrities can often abuse their power.
On July 27, the three entertainers appeared in a YouTube video together on the channel A Class Jang Young Ran and talked about their common background in entertainment programs. MC and actress Jang Young Ran noted that all four of the women had lived “hard lives in this broadcasting industry,” adding that “reporters don’t have a chance to live their lives.” Recalling her own experience, Jang said that she could be hanging out with her friends but would have to leave right away to cover an ad shoot for big-name stars like Hyun Bin.
The three guests, Kim Sae Rom, Ha Ji Young, and Park Seul Gi, also reminisced about their bitter experiences with stars who would display power trip behavior. Kim recalled that a senior celebrity who continuously mocked during a program to make the audience laugh. Though she tried to let it pass gracefully, as a newly-debuted rookie, Kim couldn’t hold back her tears. This, however, led to the senior reprimanding her even more. Kim recalled that he insulted her parents, humiliated her in the lobby in front of everyone, and even tried hitting her. Her manager had to step in to control the situation.
Ha Ji Young recalled her experience with a senior that still gets her moved to tears. The incident occurred during her rookie days when she approached a senior celebrity to congratulate them on something but got yelled at as they were in the middle of getting their makeup removed. Ha had to endure some harsh rebuke in front of others, and as soon as she went home, she broke down in tears.
Park Seul Gi also expressed her frustration, mentioning that an actor had slapped her manager because she was late for a shooting. She recalled that she had reached the set late because of a previous radio broadcasting schedule but all the actors were informed about it in advance. When Park reached the set, it was break time, and everybody was enjoying hamburgers. Apologetic for her tardiness, Park gave up her burger to her manager. But a senior actor lashed out at her manager, slapping them for eating the hamburger. Looking back, Park Seul Gi felt that the actor used this opportunity to take out their anger and frustration on her manager as her proxy.
