PSY’s Luxurious Villa In UN Village Seized Due To Unpaid Fines

He ignored several building code violations.

Legendary star and known real estate enthusiast PSY has recently come under scrutiny after it was revealed that his former home in UN Village was seized due to unpaid penalties. The singer is famous for his strategic property investments.

The fines imposed for violating building regulations were only paid months after the seizure, although the required corrections to the property remain unaddressed.

PSY and his wife purchased a high-end duplex in Hannam-dong’s UN Village back in 2008 for approximately ₩2.20 billion KRW (about $1.57 million USD). They later connected the residence to a nearby office space they also acquired. Following the changes, complaints were raised over unauthorized expansions, including modifications to shared areas and additional construction.

Officials confirmed the violations and ordered the couple to restore the property to its original state. Despite the orders, these changes were not reversed, leading to the imposition of fines.

In May, the local district office seized the property after PSY failed to pay the penalties for over a year. Although the fine amount remains undisclosed, it is believed to include significant backdated charges and accrued interest due to the ongoing violations. The fines were finally settled in October, which allowed the seizure to be lifted, but the corrective measures remain incomplete, leaving the property officially labeled as non-compliant.

Interestingly, while this dispute unfolded, PSY purchased another luxury villa in Itaewon, reportedly valued at over ₩10.0 billion KRW (about $7.12 million USD). He secured ownership of the property in September, sparking debate about the singer’s financial priorities.

Attempts to obtain a response from PSY’s agency have gone unanswered. Meanwhile, the case highlights the ongoing scrutiny around building code violations in high-profile real estate dealings within South Korea.
