Korean Rapper Jailed For Military Service Evasion Met With Thousands Of Comments Upon His Release

His attempted evasion was discovered along with other stars’.

In South Korea, men are required to enlist in the military, regardless of status. While there are some ways of getting exemptions, most men, including Korean celebrities and idols, will serve out their duty before the age of 30.

With a mandatory service, it goes unsaid that some will attempt to avoid service or change the terms of the service in ways that are not legal.

In 2021, police investigated a large-scale broker operation in the country that assisted celebrities, athletes, and wealthy individuals in evading mandatory military service. The brokers helped forge medical documents for their clients to exempt them from duty or appointed to non-military designations.
