“Real” Original Director Speaks Up About Kim Soo Hyun And Sulli In Light Of Recent Controversy
Director Lee Jung Sub was the original director of the 2017 film Real. He was later replaced by Kim Soo Hyun‘s cousin, Lee Ro Be (Lee Sa Rang). He has spoken out recently, as the film is being revisited due to controversy raised by the late Sulli’s older brother regarding her bed and nude scenes.
On March 28, 2025, Lee Jung Sub reposted a social media post by a netizen and commented, “Thank you, it has been hurting me for a long time.” Lee has been active on social media lately in the entire debacle. He has been consistenly criticizing Kim Soo Hyun in the entire controversy surrounding his relationship with Kim Sae Ron.
Lee Jung Sub reposted a multiple posts on social media regarding Kim Soo Hyun, adding his own commentary such as, “The same strategy slander… Traumatic,” and, “you should apologize to the deceased first. You’re a human being. Nothing has changed, you’ve just become more vicious.”
Regarding Sulli, he simply expressed his regret, posting a picture of her and reminiscing, “She used to take countless photos of herself every day, asking me which one looked best. I would act overwhelmed and annoyed (though not at all), and I would just say they were all so beautiful that I could not choose. Even now, I sometimes hear her persistent voice asking for an answer, and I end up searching for the best picture with a sorrowful face.”
Previously, Sulli’s older brother had demanded answers from Kim Soo Hyun and Lee Ro Be. He was concerned that the original script for the movie did not contain details about Sulli’s bed scene, and that a body double was planned and prepared but was not used. Sulli was allegedly pressured to perform the scenes herself. He also questioned conflicting testimonies about the presence of the body double on the day of the shoot.
Meanwhile, Kim Soo-hyun is currently engaged in a dispute with Kim Sae Ron’s family over allegations of a past romantic relationship when she was a minor.
