Netizens Criticize SM Entertainment For Censoring Red Velvet Joy’s Comment About “SM 3.0” In Recent Livestream
On August 1, Red Velvet celebrated their nine-year debut anniversary by hosting a livestream to interact with their fans and share some exciting news.

Despite being a nine-year-old group, Red Velvet has only released two full-length studio albums, a fact that has left many of their fans frustrated and disappointed with SM Entertainment. Their last studio album, Perfect Velvet, came out nearly six years ago in November 2017, and fans have been pleading for a new one for quite a while now, even going to the length to send protest trucks to the company.
Thankfully, the recent livestream came with the exciting news that Red Velvet’s third studio album is in the works, and will be released before too much longer! Yeri shared the exciting surprise, stating that it should be released sometime in the second half of the year.
Do I say it? We’re preparing our third full album. After this live, we’re going to have a meeting for the comeback. We have a goal to release it the second half of the year.
— Yeri (Red Velvet)
While fans were elated with this news, however, it has come to the attention of many that there has been an edit made to the livestream that cut out something that Joy said during the announcement.
When Yeri was teasing at the surprise news, Joy asked, “This is SM 3.0?”, referring to the drastic changes that SM Entertainment has gone through recently in terms of their employees, future plans, business strategy, and otherwise. Though it seemed like a harmless joke to most, the label apparently didn’t approve of the quip, and Joy’s comment was cut out in the upload of the livestream.
They really cut out the part where Joy said “This is SM 3.0?” 😭😭

It seems that SM Entertainment made a much bigger deal out of the comment than they would have if they’d left it in, so the censorship has backfired. Fans are furious at SM Entertainment for censoring Joy, and it has only led to further encouragement for the Red Velvet member to speak her mind.
this is why my girlie never getting anything from that company 😭 love her confidence tho! that’s right put them in place! don’t let em silence you 🤪 https://t.co/r0R3FueSoX

This is the 3rd time I’ve seen SM censor and artist’s words in the re-upload of a live. If fans weren’t capturing video, their words would have disappeared. smh https://t.co/gb01Z6QNQJ

At least fans have a new Red Velvet studio album to look forward to, and hopefully this sort of thing won’t happen again after it has received so much backlash!
