Red Velvet’s Joy Vents Frustration Over SM Entertainment’s Treatment Of The Group

“Why do they not know about us…?”

Red Velvet debuted on August 1, 2014, making 2024 the year that they’ll have their 10-year debut anniversary. It’s a big occasion for any K-Pop group, especially for one as well-known as Red Velvet, so fans expect SM Entertainment to give the girl group the celebration they deserve.

The label announced earlier this year that there were plans for Red Velvet to have a comeback in the second quarter of 2024. However, now that we’ve entered June and the second quarter of the year is almost over and there hasn’t been any update for the group’s comeback plans, fans are growing frustrated with the lack of communication.

And it’s not just fans that are voicing their frustration. Joy herself actually went onto Bubble to share her own concerns and confusion over the situation, wondering why their comeback hasn’t been given the same kind of promotions that even other artists under SM have had.

“No but I’m curious too.”

“ㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋㅋ”

“If you search ‘Stars who are coming back in June!!’ there are a number of groups who will appear right?”

“Meanwhile there’s also other groups in our company that would show up.”

“Why do they not know about us…?”

“Until when is this going to be a secret? Or did they forget to let people know? Or they can’t? Or maybe they’ll release it next week?”

“I’m also questioning.”

She responded to fan messages too, agreeing that their 10-year anniversary isn’t something that should be treated lightly.

Fan: “No but they can forget other things, but this is a 10-year anniversary comeback…”
Joy: “Me too I’m quietly agre..eing..ㅎㅎ”
Fan: “Princess-yah, if you just vent out everything on Bubble, and it creates an issue, then articles will be released about it too right?”
Joy: “I know right?????”

Understandably, hearing such concerns from the K-Pop idol herself has fans even more concerned about the future of Red Velvet. Some have brought up how this is a pattern of K-Pop labels, but especially SM Entertainment, where older and more experienced groups tend to get sidelined in favor of younger artists.

A post was made on Reddit about the situation too, and it’s telling how some Red Velvet fans are disappointed but not surprised, given how the group has been treated in the past.

Hopefully SM Entertainment will make an announcement regarding the group’s comeback soon.
