Red Velvet Fans Are Outraged At SM Entertainment For “Severely Underestimating” The K-Pop Group’s Popularity

“It’d take a miracle to get tickets at this point.”

Recently, the tour stops were announced for Red Velvet‘s upcoming 2023 world tour, R to V. With two legs of the tour across Asia and Europe, this will be the girl group’s first tour in three years as well as their first that includes stops in Europe. While many fans are excited for the opportunity to see Red Velvet when they never have before in certain locations, others already have concerns about the venues that were booked for the K-Pop group.

While the venues for the European dates haven’t been announced yet, some of those that are scheduled for the Asia leg of the tour have surprisingly low capacity numbers. The largest hold around 15,000, while the smallest is only built to hold around 5,000.

In comparison, TWICE‘s upcoming world tour has booked stadiums that can hold tens of thousands of fans, some as much as 70,000 or even more. Both girl groups have been around for about the same amount of time, and both have been highly successful in the K-Pop industry.

And while most successful K-Pop groups have larger venues for each respective tour that they hold, the total capacity for the Asia leg of the tour doesn’t seem to be drastically different than that of the last time they toured Asia all the way back in 2018 for their REDMARE tour.

A Reddit post has been created where fans are sharing their disappointment and frustration over this “severe underestimation” of Red Velvet’s popularity, worrying that the venues in Europe might be even smaller and thus make buying tickets almost impossible for every ReVeluv in the region.

On the other hand, some commenters think that SM Entertainment is just taking the safe route in booking smaller venues rather than larger ones, since they could lose a lot of money if they end up not selling as many tickets in larger, more expensive venues.

Then there’s the opinion that this is all a marketing strategy on SM Entertainment’s part to justify potentially overly expensive concert tickets for Red Velvet’s concerts.

It will only be once tickets actually go on sale that fans will find out whether or not Red Velvet’s venues are too small for the girl group, and we hope that if they do sell out quickly, they’re able to add additional dates to the tour so that every ReVeluv that wants to see them is able to!
