Red Velvet’s Seulgi Spills On The Marvel Character That Inspired Her For “28 Reasons”
Red Velvet‘s Seulgi is receiving much praise for her new solo album 28 Reasons, and it’s hard not to see why.
Leading up to the release of the album, Seulgi had fans excited about the horror-inspired concept of the album’s trailer. This excitement was heightened by the fact that the trailer clearly demonstrates Seulgi’s own love of movies, showing many different genres within the same trailer.
Luckily, “28 Reasons” delivered, earning Seulgi much praise from both fans and from her idol friends, including BLACKPINK‘s Jisoo.
As it turns out, one of the iconic signature moves in “28 Reasons” was inspired by a familiar movie (and comic book) character. At the press conference for the release of the album, Seulgi commented that parts of the choreography were inspired by Scarlet Witch (or Wanda Maximoff) from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
According to Seulgi, she used her Wanda-like “grotesque” hand movements to give the impression that she is a witch controlling the dancers around her.
The final product turned out perfect, of course. It seamlessly blends its inspiration with Seulgi’s own style and with what she drew from other movies.
This may be Seulgi’s solo debut, but it’s clear that she put a lot of thought into every detail, even leading fans to joke about what Seulgi was doing while watching Scarlet Witch.
