Red Velvet’s Wendy Drops Possible Hint About The Group’s Contract Renewals
As ReVeluvs wait for news on whether the Red Velvet members have renewed their contracts, Wendy may have just dropped a hint regarding their future at the company.
Red Velvet officially debuted on August 1, 2014—just over seven years and one month ago. While Yeri didn’t join the group until March 2015, given that the standard contract length in K-Pop is seven years long, fans presume that Irene, Seulgi, Joy, and Wendy‘s original contracts with SM Entertainment must have ended last month.
However, the company is yet to announce whether the Red Velvet members will actually be renewing or terminating their contracts, leaving fans eagerly awaiting news. Thankfully, in lieu of an official statement, Wendy may have just dropped a big hint as to whether the members will be re-signing or resigning.
Following another successful recording for Wendy’s weekday radio show, Wendy’s Youngstreet on SBS Radio, the star’s fansites visited her as she left the studio to talk and take pictures. Since Wendy’s Youngstreet doesn’t record on weekends, well-known fansite WENever asked Wendy what she’d be doing this Saturday—leading Wendy to drop an unexpected spoiler.
Wendy revealed to fans that she’d be spending the day taking photos.
Uhm, I’ll be taking pictures. No, like… For later… Hmm, I feel like it’d be okay to tell you though?
— Wendy
While she initially wasn’t sure if she could reveal what she’d be shooting for, she eventually relented: “Taking Season’s Greetings pictures.”
아니 얘기해도 될 것 같은데?

Season’s Greetings are a popular merchandise product in K-Pop, featuring a variety of items to be used in the upcoming year. Red Velvet’s first Season’s Greetings set was released for 2016, and they’ve carried on the tradition every year since.
Red Velvet’s Season’s Greetings next set will be released for 2022. As such, Wendy’s confirmation that the shoot is underway is a pretty big hint that she may have renewed her contract with SM Entertainment. After all, it’s highly unlikely that the company would be producing merchandise featuring her to release after she leaves.
While Wendy’s wording left things ambiguous as to whether she’d be taking the photos alone or with her fellow Red Velvet members, SM Entertainment currently doesn’t release Season’s Greetings sets for solo artists. So, it’s almost certain that Wendy was confirming a photoshoot for Red Velvet as a group—or, at least, a subset of the members.
Naturally, Wendy’s spoiler can’t be taken as any official confirmation, but it definitely suggests that Red Velvet may not be disbanding any time soon. In the meantime, fans may still have a while to wait for official contract renewal news. Labelmates Girls’ Generation‘s first renewal confirmation came over a month after their seventh anniversary, while Tiffany, Sooyoung, and Seohyun‘s departure was revealed two months after their 10th anniversary.
There’s no telling what goes on behind the scenes, but many ReVeluvs remain optimistic that Red Velvet will continue to promote together. The group recently had a successful comeback with “Queendom,” and Wendy and Joy have already made their solo debuts. The members are also shining in various individual activities, including dramas and a movie, radio shows, and YouTube series.
