Red Velvet’s Wendy Slams SM Entertainment After Announcing Absence At “SMTOWN Live in Seoul”
Red Velvet‘s Wendy apologized to fans but did not hold back when noting SM Entertainment‘s responsibility after announcing she would be absent from the company’s upcoming concert SMTOWN Live in Seoul.
On January 6, SM Entertainment announced that Wendy would not attend the “SM Family” concert on January 11 and 12 through a short statement after dropping the merchandise items for the event. The company cited “personal reasons” as the cause behind Wendy’s unexpected absence.
Red Velvet’s Wendy will not be participating due to personal reasons.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused by the change in the lineup, and ticket cancellations and refunds due to this can be processed without cancellation fees through the ticketing platform’s customer service center.— SM Entertainment

However, though SM’s notice and announcement to fans was only a few days before the concert will be held — leaving little time for any refunds to be processed — Wendy took to Bubble to personally reveal when she made the decision.
The Red Velvet star shared that she had talked with the company about her not participating in the concert over a month ago. She made sure to note her disappointment when mentioning that the company only posted the notice today. Wendy also apologized for any inconvenience that may have been caused for fans who were looking forward to seeing a full group performance from Red Velvet on stage.
You may or may not have already seen the announcement… I actually discussed this with the company over a month ago, but the notice was only posted today…
I’m sure there were a lot of ReVeluvs who were looking forward to seeing Red Velvet perform as a full group of five, and I’m really sorry about that. Since it’s the 30th anniversary, there are a variety of stages being prepared. I hope you’ll have a great time. Thank you, as always, and I’m sorry.

While fans initially wondered if Wendy’s absence was due to health issues, the singer clarified that she is fortunately healthy. Wendy also shared that she wants to perform in as many stages as possible in 2025.
I’m not sick, and I’m healthy.
My goal for 2025 is to stay healthy, happy, and perform on stages I love as much as possible. I really want to sing so badly.— Wendy via Bubble

A similar situation happened a few weeks ago when Girls’ Generation‘s Taeyeon also announced she would not be attending the highly-anticipated concert. The chart-topper’s belatedly announced absence also caused upset among fans.
