RIIZE’s New Advertisements For “ETUDE” Brand Face Backlash And Divided Reactions
Korean cosmetic brand ETUDE revealed the hottest rookie idol group RIIZE to be their newest model, launching a lineup of lip tint products named “over glowy” alongside the reveal.
RIIZE’s six members posed for ETUDE, wearing the new lip tint—the glossy colors highlighting their lips.
The individual photos, however, sparked divided reactions from Korean netizens who believed the photoshopping was “over the top.”
Some also commented that, while the members looked as good as ever, the colors “didn’t suit them well.”
- “Eunseok is so f*cking good-looking.”
- “All of their lips are way too glossy… LOL. But I like the color Anton’s wearing the best.”
- “Anton’s f*cking gorgeous…”
- “I think the colors that Wonbin and Eunseok are wearing should be best for me… The other colors are not going to work for me at all.”
- “Eunseok pulled that off.”
- “Wonbin and Eunseok both look amazing. Such ETUDE-land princes.”
- “LOL. It’s adorable how their lips are glowing. Haha. I love this, though, because they’re all so good-looking.”
- “Eunseok got the best color that matched him well. Haha.”
- “Wonbin has pretty lips.”
- “Some of these colors are not working for the members… LMAO. But they look great nonetheless!”
A handful of comments even argued that female models should have been signed for the advertisements.
- “Who’s the first dude? He’s gorgeous.”
- “That’s Wonbin. His lips are pretty.”
- “It looks like some of the members also wore colored contacts? I would love to know the colors…”
- “The photoshopping is kind of weird… I don’t like these.”
- “I hate when male idols take on women’s makeup advertisements. ESPECIALLY when it’s glossy lip products. Haha.”
- “The color that the last member is wearing looks good.”
- “Anton looks so feminine in his picture… And TBH, the lip color isn’t really blending in with the members. Haha.”
- “I’m actually surprised that Sungchan pulled this off the best. LOL.”
- “I think it’s always better to use female models for these…”
- “Anton’s so pretty! The color he’s wearing isn’t working for him, but he’s pretty regardless.”
That is not all there is to the reactions coming from the news of RIIZE becoming the face of ETUDE. A short Korean video of the members talking about their upcoming promotions with the brand also sparked some backlash…
…for leaving out member Shotaro from speaking at all.
- “But wait, how come Shotaro didn’t get any lines? What’s the reason, ETUDE?”
- “Shotaro is the only member who didn’t get to speak. Is that on purpose? Leaving out the Japanese-speaking member? Is that what Amore Pacific is up to?”
- “How come Shotaro doesn’t get any lines other than the group greeting? Haha. Please let him speak, too! I want to hear his voice.”
- “But I wanted to hear Shotaro’s voice, too…”
Because the Japanese version of the same video does include Shotaro speaking, the backlash is fierce against ETUDE for apparent “discrimination” against the member.
