On December 15th, shocking reports revealed a rising young actress had committed suicide.
With her most recent role in the drama Sassy Go Go (Cheer Up!) which also featured Apink‘s Jung Eunji, actor Ji Soo, and more, Kang Doo Ri‘s future as an actress was bright making the news even more shocking. She was only 22 years old (23 Korean age).
Reports initially reported the actress had died due to a vehicle accident that occurred on the 14th before passing away on the 15th. Her wake is set to be held on the 16th at a hospital in Incheon.
However, later reports confirmed that Kang Doo Ri had taken her own life and was found dead at the scene at her studio apartment in Gang-du, Bupyeong-gu, Incheon. An acquaintance revealed that she has mentioned having a hard time and received an alarming text from the actress causing the acquaintance to call 119. Police report no signs of break-ins or tampering and has ruled it a suicide.
In addition to being an actress, Kang Doo Ri was also a known AfreecaTV BJ (broadcasting jockey) and has appeared in films and dramas such as Touch (2012) and KBS’s drama Sassy Go Go.
On December 11th, she wrote on her AfreecaTV page, “Nowadays, I am having a hard time due to a lot of bad personal problems. After the drama ended and I was doing broadcasts, things were getting progressively better. But the situation has started to worsen again and I can’t do anything. I am trying to get ready and return to everyone.”
