Convicted Sex Offender Idol Opens YouTube Channel, Sending Koreans On Another Reporting Spree

He has previously been banned from Instagram.

Former member of the 90s K-Pop group Roo’Ra and convicted sex offender Go Young Wook announced the beginning of his YouTube channel, which has since sent Koreans on a reporting spree to have him removed from the platform.

After being released in 2015 from 2.5 years of prison for sexually harassing and assaulting three minors, Go Young Wook remained quiet.

But in 2020, he tried opening an Instagram account, which was seen by the Korean public as an attempt to “revive” his career. His account was mass reported and later shut down by the platform as per its policy that does not allow convicted sex offenders.

Convicted sex offenders aren’t allowed to use Instagram. If you’ve seen an account that may belong to a convicted sex offender, please report it to us. Once we’re able to verify someone’s status as a sex offender, we’ll immediately disable their account.

After addressing the shutdown on his X (former Twitter) account, Go returned to being radio silent…

Looks like my Instagram got deleted. I didn’t mean to block comments. I wanted to allow only my followers to be able to leave comments. And I was going to start following accounts. But I received a lot of DMs. The account was disabled shortly after. I couldn’t log in after that. Thank you for your interest while it lasted, though!

…until his latest tweet revealed his new YouTube channel. Early morning on August 5, 2024 (KST), Go tweeted a link to a YouTube channel. Admitting that he has led a “shameful life,” Go said he launched the channel to bring change to his otherwise “mundane routine.”

I’ve lived a shameful life. I feel like I’m growing old and useless, just complaining away at home. So I’ve started a YouTube channel, without much aim, in an attempt to escape my mundane routine… Take care of yourselves in this sweltering heat!

The video, titled “Fresh,” doesn’t show much other than his dog and a tablet playing music.

But it was enough to send Koreans into a raging spree of reporting again, demanding that YouTube also removes Go from the platform. Both Go’s X and YouTube account remain active for the time being.
