Sandara Park Reveals A Startling Secret About 2NE1’s Performance In Coachella
Sandara Park and the rest of the members of 2NE1 performed together for the first time in seven years at the 2022 Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in the U.S.
Sandara shared with Radio Star that over the years, there have been many invitations for their group to perform in events and award ceremonies, but it never worked out. Surprisingly for Coachella, they were able to make it happen, but it wasn’t easy. They were asked to keep their Coachella participation a secret and had to sign a document for it. If the secret went out, they would be required to pay the organizers a penalty, and their performance would be canceled.
They all went to Coachella without telling their respective agencies. Though they were still together as a group, they now had different agencies managing their careers. If even just one of them told anyone from their agencies about the Coachella gig, there was a high risk of it being spread to other people, which would violate the agreement they signed.
To practice for Coachella, they had to rehearse secretly as well. They rehearsed in Minzy‘s dance academy, which finished its dance classes at 10:00 in the evening. They had to wait till that time to rehearse secretly every night, telling their managers that they would be out meeting friends.
Sandara shared they were worried about the reception they would receive in Coachella. They hadn’t performed in seven years, and it bothered them that the crowd might not be familiar with 2NE1, much less their music, due to their long absence. Despite their worry, they were ready to give their all and kill it on stage.
Sandara recalled there were thousands of people in the audience. Their first song, “I am the Best,” had an iconic intro. As soon as the audience heard it, they went crazy and started screaming. The audience started singing along with them.
The crowd’s reaction fired them up and gave them an unforgettable experience. They cried together after the performance.
Fun .fact: A shoe flew onstage!
