Actors Reportedly Plan To Mourn Lee Sun Kyun At The “2023 SBS Drama Awards”
An exclusive investigative report by Hankyung Dotcom on December 28, 2023, reported that the SBS Drama Awards may be a solemn affair this year. Due to the sudden death of actor Lee Sun Kyun, it is said that the participating actors plan on honoring him with a black dress code.
It was reported that many who had been fitted for colored dresses and tuxedoes were in a rush to re-coordinate an all-black look. The event will be held on December 29, 2023, making the timeline rather tight. A representative from SBS stated to the media that the production team did not make the request of the honored actors. Rather, one actor had asked the team if they could wear black to the event. The team then gave their permission, but it escalated into a butterfly effect, where the overall atmosphere took a turn for the solemn, leading other actors to rethink their outfits.
A staff from an actor’s team commented to the media that they were contacted about the matter on the afternoon of December 27, 2023, right after news of Lee’s death. While it would not be a huge issue for actors who mostly wear black tuxedoes anyway, for actresses who usually dress to the nines for award ceremonies, it would be a greater challenge.
Lee was found unconscious in his car on December 27, 2023. The police pronounced him dead the same morning.
