SBS Inkigayo Bans Audience Cheering/Shouting Due To Resurgence Of Covid-19 In South Korea

Covid cases have reached an all-time three-month high in daily cases reported.

SBS’s Inkigayo posted on its Audience Bulletin Board that shouting during pre-recording and live broadcasts of Inkigayo has been banned due to changes in quarantine guidelines for Covid-19. This is due to the resurgence of Covid-19 cases in South Korea, reported having reached 111,789 new infections, of which 66.8% were of the Omicron sub-variant BA.5.

Inkigayo recently resumed public viewing in their studio on May 15, in compliance with the easing of quarantine rules at that time. Though they will still allow public viewing currently, the audience is not allowed to cheer or shout. This is for the safety of the onsite artists and the audience.

Health authorities estimate a peak of around 200,000 infection cases a day, a level they assure is still manageable. Despite this, the South Korean government is not reimposing strict social distancing rules as it is firm to continue moving on from the pandemic to resume normalcy.
