SEVENTEEN Mingyu’s “Daddy” Fancall Triggers Heated Debate

The fan’s question could have potentially come with innuendos.

A recent fansign involving SEVENTEEN‘s Mingyu sparked a heated debate. A fan had asked him if he wanted to “be their daddy, or be their husband.” Mingyu chose the former.

The fan’s first language is not English, so it is unclear if they were aware of the innuendo that the word “daddy” possesses in modern day English slang. While the word’s origins are completely innocuous, it could take on sexual connotations in English-speaking countries.

Many international fans found the question weird.

Others simply found it cringe.

A portion of fans took it with good humor.

The issue of inappropriate vs. appropriate behavior on fancalls have been called into contention recently as fans debate where the lines should be drawn.

Fans were even more bitter about no staff intervening at the potentially loaded text due to a recent happening where a staff stopped a fan from asking about Jun.
