On September 12, a post titled “SEVENTEEN Fans Expressing Concerns Over HYBE NewJeans’ Situation” went viral. The post has since been viewed almost 60K times as of this writing.

In the post, the author uploaded several tweets from prominent SEVENTEEN fans. In one of the tweets, the fan made it crystal clear that HYBE’s treatment of NewJeans was wrong.

I am here to say something a little heavy. This year, I have been extremely disappointed in Pledis and HYBE. In particular, I think it what they are doing to NewJeans is extemely wrong. I am now concerned that the attacks on other artists may one day target our members.

I ask that HYBE return NewJeans’ surroundings to their normal state so that NewJeans can comfortably promote like they did in the beginning. Also, I ask that HYBE stop committing acts that are so disappointing. I am sorry if this made you uncomfortable but I am writing this because I feel my voice might be a little louder than others. I hope you understand.

In a different tweet, another prominent SEVENTEEN fan also expressed concerns over HYBE’s actions.

Is it okay for a label to push their artists towards criticism so that the label’s executives can hide behind them? What they are doing to NewJeans is so disappointing and I wonder every day if this is how you’re treating your artists. I also feel that SEVENTEEN members may face a similar fate.

Netizens reacted to the posts by praising SEVENTEEN fans. Many also expressed concerns that what is happening to NewJeans can happen to their other artists.

  • “Of course, they feel this way. They aren’t immune to what is happening to NewJeans.”
  • “To be honest, this is how everyone should be feeling. The label is literally using their artists as shields, who knows who is next.”
  • “SEVENTEEN fans will know the difference between the Pledis days before HYBE and after HYBE. Although they are in a nicer building, nothing good has come from it for fans.”
  • “As a GFRIEND fan, the only thing I can say that is different from other fans is that I’ve seen this before. We couldn’t protect our group because we weren’t strong enough, but I hope no one else goes through something late that… Honestly.”
  • “Fans should be nervous because their artist might become the next target if they do anything to piss off the executives. Think about how HYBE would destroy them if they don’t re-sign.”
  • “It’s a relief that there is at least one big fandom that is normal.”
  • “This is amazing. I have so much respect for them.”
