A dad attempted to get revenge on behalf of his daughter, who suffered sexual harassment.
On February 23, Hankyung reported that Moon (57) threatened to blow everyone up as he left twenty butane gas canisters at a Saemaul Geumgo building in Dongdaemun-gu. He was stopped by the police.
It was revealed that Moon had threatened such extreme actions due to his daughter’s mistreatment. Before this, he visited the campaign office of Yeo Myeong, a prospective candidate for the Jung-gu district in Seoul, on February 16. Moon explained, “The chairman of Saemaul Geumgo sexually harassed my daughter, and everyone is trying to ignore it.”
The campaign office manager decided to contact Moon the next morning, as Moon was upset and intoxicated at the time of the visit. But it was after Moon visited the Saemaul Geumgo building, intending to blow it up, as twenty butane gas cylinders were found in the ATM room. Thankfully, no customers were present, so there were no casualties. Moon’s goal was to publicize injustice.Mr. A, the chairman of Saemaul Geumgo, who is suspected of sexually harassing Moon’s daughter, was booked on February 21 on charges of sexually assaulting a female employee. He was accused on the 15th.
Reportedly, Mr. A called for a private meeting with a female employee but took her to an underground bar in the building. It was there that he made unconsented physical contact with the victim. That wasn’t all, though.
After, Mr. A took the female employee home. He even kissed her forehead and hugged her. Mr. A admitted to it but defended himself to MBC, saying, “Because she was young, I didn’t see her as a woman. I have a 3-year-old grandson. I always kiss him on the forehead, but she got upset…”
Mr. A is also suspected of making his employees pay ₩100,000 KRW (about $75.30 USD) in political donations to Ahn Gyu Back, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, last month. Recipient of funds, Ahn, released a statement. He explained, “I had no idea I ordered the donation payment and never asked for it. The sponsorship funds from the employees of the Saemaul Savings Bank were collectively in the 1,000,000 won range.”
The Ministry of Employment and Labor also released a statement regarding the sexual harassment case. An official investigation has been initiated.
We decided to launch an official investigation because we recognize the high probability of sexual harassment in the workplace under the Gender Equality Act while looking at the victim interview, CCTV video, and interviews with the chairman.
