“She’s Too Honest”: BIGBANG’s Taeyang Confesses That He Doesn’t Let His Wife Min Hyo Rin Listen To His Songs
BIGBANG‘s Taeyang confessed that he doesn’t always let his wife, Min Hyo Rin, listen to his unfinished music, but his love for her is evident through his music.
In Taeyang’s [Down to Earth] DOCUMENTARY FILM PART 2, posted on his YouTube channel, the singer showed behind-the-scenes footage of his life in April. From press conferences to walks with his wife and kid, Taeyang showed his duality as a world star and a fantastic husband and father.
In the documentary, the star showed a snippet of a peaceful walk with his wife, who saw lilacs and sweetly said, “I like lilacs!” which made Taeyang chuckle. His love for Min Hyo Rin is evident, but he shared that she is sometimes his worst critic.
I actually don’t let my wife listen to my music. She’s too honest. She’s very certain about what’s good and bad, and she’s pretty accurate when something is good. So I try not to let her listen to unfinished music.

Despite her honest feedback, Taeyang shared his song “Reason” with her when it was almost finished—and she liked it.
When the song ‘Reason’ was somewhat finished, my wife heard it and said, ‘Huh? Is this song about me?’ And I told her she was right. She liked it a lot.
— Taeyang
He went into detail about how he wrote “Reason.” It was a song he had on the back burner for a while, but he eventually made the song about his current point of view about love and daily conversations.
In the lyrics of “Reason,” Taeyang shares his love and thankfulness for Min Hyo Rin, who keeps him grounded during hard times.
The lyrics at the bridge of the song contain feelings about her and how she helps me stay grounded even in times of despair and struggles. She sacrifices way more than I do and she’s always there to help me learn. Those emotions are captured in this song.
— Taeyang
Seeing how honest Min Hyo Rin is with her feedback for her husband’s music and how Taeyang cares so much about what she thinks shows how much they love and care for one another. And even though Taeyang doesn’t like to let her listen to his songs unless they’re somewhat finished, he once let her listen to a song—and it changed his life.
When they were dating, they broke up for a short period. It was during this time that he wrote his epic breakup song, “Eyes, Nose, Lips,” which he played for her, and it became a special song that helped them get back together.
As I made the song, we ended up dating again. I showed the song to Min Hyo Rin as one that represents my feelings, and she loved it.

After getting back together, the two continued dating until they married in 2018. Now they are happily married with their 17-month-old child.
