SHINee‘s Onew has recently opened up about his decision to part ways with SM Entertainment after 17 years.
At the beginning of 2024, SHINee’s Onew — alongside Taemin — announced that he would be parting ways with SM Entertainment.

The news came as a shock to many fans, especially considering that the idols had been under SM for over 15 years.
Now, after five months, Onew finally revealed the real reason he left the label.

During a recent appearance on KBS 2TV’s show The Seasons, Onew shared his thoughts on the challenges he faced while performing and the personal growth that led to his departure.
The SHINee star revealed that he had long struggled with the pressure of performing in front of an audience, but a shift in perspective encouraged him to embrace new opportunities. He expressed a desire to connect with more people and use his voice to make a positive impact, even if in small ways.
Although he acknowledges that he is not perfect, Onew is now focused on giving his best in his solo endeavors.

After leaving SM Entertainment, Onew signed an exclusive contract with the newly established Griffin Entertainment, marking a fresh start in his career. As for why he left… Onew noted that being with SM for so long made him feel “too comfortable.”
To be honest, after being in such a great company for so long, I started to feel like I was getting too comfortable. So, I decided to take on more challenges and see what else I could do. It’s only been three to four months since I left.

However, he reassured fans that while he is pursuing solo activities, SHINee remains together as a group, likening his move to branching out while still staying connected.
I’m doing solo activities on my own, but SHINee is still together. I haven’t left; we’re still doing things together. It feels like moving out from the main house but still being part of the family.
