Singer BIBI Unexpectedly Causes Korean Snack Sales To Rise
Singer BIBI has caused an unexpected impact on the sales of a popular Korean snack, all thanks to her viral song.
BIBI’s hit song “Bam Yang Gang,” released in February, left even her regular listeners in shock with its completely different vibe and sound from her usual discography. Written by Jang Ki Ha, the song tells the story of a breakup where the woman’s needs are constantly misunderstood by the man. BIBI sings from the woman’s perspective, repeating throughout the track that all she ever wanted was “Bam Yang Gang,” a sweet chestnut jelly bar popular in Korea.
Though the chestnut bar in the song alludes to the simple comforts the woman wanted from her relationship, the name “Bam Yang Gang” immediately gained massive visibility all over the world thanks to BIBI’s song. According to industry data, between February 13 (when the song was released) and March 6, major convenience stores in Korea reported an increase of up to 100% in sales of Haitai Confectionery’s “Yeon Yanggaeng” or sweet chestnut jelly.
Interestingly, in the packages chestnut jelly market, Haitai’s Yeon Yanggaeng holds an 80% share while Crown Confectionery’s Bam Yanggaeng commands the remaining 20%. On March 12, Yoon Young Dal, the chief of Crown Haitai Group, the parent company of both confectionery firms, revealed that they have increased their production capacity for the traditional jelly due to increased demands.
Chairman Yoon gave all the credit to BIBI and her song, thanking her.
Thanks to the song, we had to increase our production capacity. The song’s popularity has brought us a lot of benefits.

Meanwhile, BIBI’s “Bam Yang Gang” continues to see rising success on the charts and in international popularity. After its release, the song became the second track of 2024 to achieve a perfect all-kill, and it continues to dominate the major streaming charts, including Melon Top 100.
