A fancam on TikTok of Hyolyn dancing to her new song has circulated, and it’s received mixed reactions due to her appearance. Since the video begins showing Hyolyn from the back as she twerked, her face is not visible at first.

Netizens confessed they didn’t recognize her initially and were judging based on skin color. Her tan was so dark that some mistook her for Black women, such as BLACKSWAN‘s Fatou or JAM REPUBLIC‘s Latrice Kabamba.

Yet, on X (formerly Twitter), netizens criticized Hyolyn for Blackfishing, which is the act of a non-Black person attempting to appear Black, and cultural appropriation, which is adopting elements of another culture to often exploit or profit from them.
