On JTBC‘s talk show Dangpo, Chaeryeong joined three of her seniors, Roo’ra‘s Chae RinaBrown Eyed Girls‘ Narsha, and 2NE1‘s Sandara Park, to talk about their respective experiences as girl group idol members.

While talking about various topics, the hosts, Tak Jae Hoon, Yoon Jong Shin, and Hong Jin Kyung, asked Chaeryeong if there was another girl group that she wanted to join outside of ITZY. Chaeryeong gave a very “idol-like” answer, saying that there were no groups she would rather be in.

It was then revealed that before Chaeryeong auditioned for JYP Entertainment, which is the company she is currently in, she auditioned for SM Entertainment, which led to Yoon Jong Shin saying, “You could have been in aespa!” However, Chaeryeong shared that she didn’t pass her audition with SM Entertainment.

Yoon Jong Shin then poked fun at Chaeryeong, asking her if she was getting revenge on SM Entertainment now for failing her back then. Chaeryeong was honest and said, “Actually, I still like SM.” However, she said she liked JYP very much, too.

The hosts then asked her the classic “who would you choose” question, asking her which company she would choose if she were accepted into both SM and JYP at the same time.

After contemplating for a moment, Chaeryeong shared her honest answer.

For me… I think I would have chosen SM Entertainment.

Everyone in the studio laughed and acknowledged her love for SM while praising her honesty at the same time. They also concluded that it was fate that brought her to JYP.

Chaeryeong joined JYP Entertainment after appearing on the audition program K-Pop Star with her sister Lee Chaeyeon. Then in 2015, she competed in Sixteen, the audition program that picked the members of TWICE. She was eliminated and unable to debut at the time, but in 2019, she debuted as a member of ITZY.
