Fans Criticize SM’s Statement To Take Legal Action Against Malicious Attacks Towards BoA
Recently, SM Entertainment posted an official statement regarding their artist, BoA.
— BoA Official (@BoA_Official) April 11, 2024
Hello, this is SM Entertainment. This is to inform you about issues regarding our artist BoA. Due to the recent accounts of false rumors, malicious attacks, and slander against our artists on social media and online communities, we have started large-scale lawsuits in Korea and overseas with the law firm Sejong, which is in charge of legal action cases for our artists.
Since our last statement, we have combined substantial evidence and made progress in our lawsuit against malicious accounts. We will continue to collect more evidence to make the attackers accountable for their actions.
The amount of malicious attacks is so severe that our artist is currently experiencing hardship both physically and mentally. We will not show leniency or take settlements until the attackers are held legally accountable. Please understand that even now, you may be subject to punishment for any malicious posts.
We want to clarify that such malicious attacks violate the law and that it is possible to face harsh punishment. We ask that you stop these attacks against our artists. Thank you.
However, fans criticized the vague statement, stating that it was no different from their past warning and posts.
SM once again issues a vague statement claiming that they will pursue legal action in defense of BoA, who they recognize is suffering great mental anguish.
As usual: no targets named, no specifics.
This statement means nothing until we've seen real progress & action. https://t.co/fvT0P65teX

you’re all losers and cowards. it shouldn’t have taken a sudden retirement announcement for something to be done, and i say something lightly bc we know it’s just a vague copy pasted statement with no action. the mental anguish she’s experiencing could’ve been avoided years ago. https://t.co/KJQBzJ4Lk2

The overused template. How many statements have you released exactly like this? This only proves that you have done NOTHING all this time.
It's heartbreaking to read that BoA is struggling and having a hard time. It could've been prevented if you have made an immediate action. https://t.co/hiKA1YLTIs

the fact that sm won’t protect boa, the most important and iconic idols they have, is so crazy like?!?! if she isn’t their top priority, i don’t even want to imagine what their others are going through https://t.co/j7kY8eXTxa

K-Netizens also begged SM to take real action and protect BoA.
- “I wish they would all receive punishment..there’s many people that need to be punished on this site, too.”
- “My heart is heavy seeing that BoA is having a hard time.”
- Please show us some progress and action!”
- “Please do your work! I’m begging you. Protect BoA!”
- “Please post the results after taking legal action too.”
Previously, BoA deleted all her posts on Instagram, which gained much attention online. Many felt that it could be due to the massive number of hate comments she had received due to various issues such as her role in Marry My Husband and changes to her facial features.
